Cerec is of help where the size of the filling is in excess of what the dentist feels is suitable for white filling material.
In short white fillings are great for small to moderate fillings, but in cases there is often more filling than tooth present lets talk porcelain and CEREC.
What is CEREC?
CEREC is the short term for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics, (CEramic REConstruction)- a bit of a mouthful if you excuse the pun !

CEREC uses CAD/CAM (computer aided design/computer aided manufacturing) technology to take optical impressions quickly and generate a precisely fitted filling.
The CEREC process lets you receive your permanent restoration while you wait, so you do not have to live for weeks with a temporary filling/inlay/onlay/crown and schedule another appointment.

Another benefit of CEREC is that it uses a single block of solid ceramic materials instead of either layer of hand placed white or amalgam filling material.

CEREC restorations are able to withstand moderate chewing so yours will last for years. The lifespan of a CEREC restoration is longer than similar work with traditional methods. In addition, the colour of CEREC ceramic is closer to the colour of your natural teeth, which will make your restoration virtually unnoticeable when compared to metal fillings/inlay/onlays/crowns.
From the patient fatigue point of view it means all the time consuming work of laboriously placing filling material layer after layer is eliminated as the restoration is made inside a machine, which can then be efficiently bonded in place in one piece.
